Squirrel and Grapes fountain pen is another masterpiece of Maki-e art from Platinum.
The squirrel, as an animal which stores food for the winter which translates as a symbol of storing money or treasure for the future, while grapes are commonly used as a symbol for something blessed, good and prosperous. For the grape leaves, they represent plenty, freedom and rebirth.
Raden is a technique of in using inlays of shell for decoration. The grapes on the cap are beautifully designed and applied raden. The raden reflects light in different colors making this pen a changing sparkle. What makes this pen remarkable is hand painted pen using the Japanese skill and craftsmanship that has been mastered over the last few thousand of years. The Craftman is 'Koen' and his signature is placed on the lower portion of pen barrel.
This pen is gold trimmed and it comes with a very smooth-writing 18k gold nib available in UEF, EF, F, M B and C points.
The pen features a unique "Slip and Seal" mechanism in the cap, meaning an airtight screw-on cap that prevents ink from drying out. Other fountain pens can dry out in as little as 2–4 weeks without use, but Platinum's Slip and Seal cap prevents dry out for over a year without use.
