Among the materials and finishes used today in the manufacture of fountain pens, the maki –e ancient decorative technique is one of the most prominent of its unique charm and richness.

The maki-e technique was born mainly in the Heian Period (794-1185) and blossomed in the Edo period (1603–1868). From the beginning, this technique was used by the privileged classes on household items such as vessels, furniture, boxes and brush handles as a symbol of power. After gaining more popularity in the twentieth century, this technique was started to use on the fountain pens.

The term "Maki-e" literally means "sprinkled paint" is Urushi lacquer sprinkled with gold or silver powder as a decoration using a makizutsu or a kebobrush.

This Platinum Urushi Maki-e Momiji fountain pen is made using the Kaga maki-e technique which involves building up design patterns by applying many layers of Urushi lacquer  through a mixture of metal powder or lacquer to gives more volume and richness to the paint.

It features high quality resin body with a lavish look. The Urushi lacquer with gold dust transmitting a form of rays to the charming autumn scenery with beautiful leaves of Maple.

This pen is gold trimmed and it comes with a very smooth-writing 18k gold nib available in F and M points.

The pen features a unique "Slip and Seal" mechanism in the cap, meaning an airtight screw-on cap that prevents ink from drying out. Other fountain pens can dry out in as little as 2–4 weeks without use, but Platinum's Slip and Seal cap prevents dry out for over a year without use.
